Huazhong Agricultural University is a national key university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education and established by the national "211 Project". The campus is located in the Lion Mountain of Nanhu Lake, Wuchang, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. It is surrounded by lakes on three sides, with beautiful scenery and elegant environment.

The school has a long history and has always been highly valued by the country. Its predecessor was the Hubei Agricultural School founded in 1898 by Zhang Zhidong, the governor of Huguang during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. Some departments were formed to establish Huazhong Agricultural College. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the school was directly under the Ministry of Higher Education of the Central Government, and later under the dual leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Hubei Province. In 1979, it was approved as a national key university by the State Council, directly under the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1981, approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, it became the first batch of schools with the right to grant doctorate and master degrees. The school has the right to evaluate professors and doctoral supervisors. In 1985, it was renamed Huazhong Agricultural University. In 2000, it was transferred to the direct leadership of the Ministry of Education by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The school has long received cordial care from the party and state leaders. Dong Biwu, Li Xiannian, Xu Teli wrote inscriptions and the name of the school successively. Li Lanqing, then member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, visited the school on November 23, 1997. Jiang Zemin, then General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the State, wrote an inscription for the school’s centennial anniversary on October 1, 1998: "Implement the party's educational policy, implement the strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education, and strive to cultivate outstanding talents for agricultural modernization."

The basic conditions of the school are excellent. The campus covers an area of 4.95 million square meters (7425 acres). The existing school building area is 1.005 million square meters; the asset value of teaching and research equipment is 573 million yuan; the library building area is 31136 square meters, with more than 4,700 reading seats, and a comprehensive collection of 2.6 million volumes. ) Is an important member of the Ministry of Education with the qualifications for scientific and technological novelty search; the campus network "Gigabit backbone, 100M to the desktop" covers the entire school. The company started to use two SRC-75SA (flow 9.8m³/min, pressure 0.8MPa, voltage 380V) air compressors from Shanghai Schneider Sunshine in 2011, which are mainly used for instrument gas and cleaning purge in the university’s laboratory.
